The Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has declared that his party is committed to a peaceful election.
The former President however said that the attitude of the New Patriotic Party in achieving a violent free election on December 7 is questionable.
Mahama started his four-day tour in the Volta Region on Monday, made this statement whilst he was speaking to the chiefs and people of Mepe in the North Tongu constituency.
According to him, he has observed that the government does not seem to be interested in making the upcoming elections a peaceful one.
“In December we will go for an election, and we want our election to be non-violent, and we in the NDC are peaceful people. But our opponents have a tendency for violence, and they have displayed at any given opportunity”, he said.
In defending his statement, the former president recalled the thugs of the NPP who chased out a judge in a court in Kumasi were just slapped on the wrist while the others who committed the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence are still walking free without justice being served.
Another incident he also mentioned was the incident involving Special Development Minister, Hawa Koomson who reportedly fired some shots at a registration center during the just ended voter’s registration exercise.
“We have a whole minister claiming that she fired a gunshot at Kasoa during the registration exercise and nothing has happened,” he added.
“So when you look at all these things, you can predict what they will do in the elections and officials of the party have said that, Ayawaso West Wuogon was a dress rehearsal and that the real thing was going to be on voting day”, he said.
