The National Hajj Board led by its Secretary Alhaji Faruck Hamza, has on Wednesday March 8, 2023, engaged the leadership of the Northern Regional Muslim Council in Tamale.
The engagement aimed to educate the members and the leadership of the Council on the adjustment of the fair and activities of this year’s Hajj process.
The Ghana Hajj Board has announced that prospective pilgrims to Mecca this year will pay $6,500, which translates to GH₵75,000 each.
The Board in a statement informed prospective pilgrims that the cedi equivalent of GHS75,000 remains in force until 31st March 2023, and may change afterwards based on prevailing exchange rate of the US Dollars after March ending.
Prospective pilgrims have therefore been encouraged to pay early through any of the 42 accredited agents nationwide in order to secure their slots.
However, in his remarks, Alhaji Faruck Hamza revealed that the National Hajj Board has taken steps to come out with a Mobile App to ensure a comprehensive self-payment portal. “We intend to develop a mobile App to ensure prospective pilgrims sit at their various homes and make payment without any difficulties”, he added.
Alhaji Faruck Hamza, while highlighting the adjustment of this year’s Hajj fair, also called on the leadership of the Northern Regional Muslim Council to support the board to ensure a smooth Hajj process.
The Hajj Board Secretary after listening to the suggestion and opinions by the members and leadership of the council thus, also assured his outfit will take it to the appropriate authority for its implementation.
On his part, the Vice Chairman of the Council Doctur Mohammed Awal Issah on behalf of the leadership of the council commended the National Hajj Board for the gesture.
Doctur Mohammed Awal, on behalf of the Council, also called on the leadership of the board to continue engaging with the relevant authorities to enable the government review the cost of transporting Ghanaian Hajj pilgrims to Mecca.
