Wednesday, 28th December 2022, marked another important milestone in the successes of the government’s foremost flagship 1D1F programme, as Trade and Industry minister, Alan Kyeremanten commissioned the Common User Factory for the farmer-owners of the Savelugu municipality and its environs in the Northern region.
It also marked the inauguration of the Board of Directors of the farmer-owners facility to help in the proper management of the project under well laid down structures to make for its profitability and sustainability.
The minister’s delight at being back in the Northern region for this innovative project was complemented by the excitement shown by the beneficiaries.
The 1D1F initiative is equipping and empowering business promoters including Farmer Based Organizations (FBOs) to utilize their local resources in manufacturing products that are in high demand both locally and internationally; to create business opportunities in the districts, harness the strengths and resources of the locals to contribute to the value chain by employing efficient technologies and thereby generate sustainable and accelerated economic development for rural communities.
The rice farmers of the Savelugu Municipality and neighbouring ones are the owners and operators of the factories with the District Assembly and Yoo Traditional Council being joint owners.
Additionally, the Savelugu Technology Solution Centre was commissioned to support not only the rice factory but provide modern-day technology support services to all factories in its catchment area.
