The Okorase community in the Eastern Region has celebrated a major milestone with the commissioning of a new community centre and borehole facilities—projects championed by Nana Asare Kumi III, Okorasehene, in a bid to drive development for present and future generations.
Nana Asare Kumi III, the Okorasehene, has expressed profound gratitude to God and the people of Okorase as the community commissioned its newly constructed community centre. Speaking at the ceremony, he shared the historical significance of the land on which the project stands. According to him, the site was once a cocoa farm where their grandparents used to gather for
important meetings.
He recounted that Christianity was introduced to Okorase around 1880, and because the community gathered on this same land, it naturally became the place where both church and school activities were first established. For this reason, he said, it is no surprise that when the need arose for a community centre, the project was once again sited on the very spot their ancestors cherished.
Nana Asare Kumi III noted that although he could have used the support and opportunities available to him for personal comfort—such as travelling abroad or buying luxurious cars—he chose instead to focus on development for Okorase. He thanked God for granting him the strength and favour to help fulfill the dreams of their forefathers.
Speaking at the same event, Mr. Solomon Sacktey, Deputy Port Logistics Manager at Tema, praised the Okorasehene for dedicating his leadership to the community rather than personal gain. He emphasized that the new community centre and borehole facilities will serve generations to come, describing the chief as a visionary leader who stands firmly for the progress of Okorase.
Mr. Sacktey added that while many leaders use their positions for individual benefit, Nana Asare Kumi III chose to request meaningful development projects—such as potable water and a community centre—for his people. He revealed that the project commenced in August last year, and with God’s help, it has been successfully completed and commissioned.
He concluded by highlighting the importance of water in every community, expressing joy that Okorase now has reliable access to this essential resource.
