A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Arthur Kennedy, has raised doubts about Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO)’s ability to be an effective running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 elections.
Speaking on Joy FM’s AM Show, Dr. Kennedy is saying that picking NAPO as running mate didn’t help the NPP gain more support or attract new voters in the previous election.
He argued that, the choice of NAPO didn’t really help the party reach more people or win over new supporters last.
“I don’t think he was a good running mate,” he said. “Of course, you can always say maybe this time around he will be better. But the last time, his Kwame Nkrumah comments and all those kinds of things were alienating”. He stated.
Dr Kennedy noted that while personal improvement is always possible, political campaigns require careful calculation about public perception and reach.
“I like NAPO. He’s a very interesting person,” he said. “But if I were Dr Bawumia, I would seriously consider whether other people would help me better.”
He suggested that the issues surrounding those comments created unnecessary barriers for the party at a critical time.
