Fifty participants from the NCDS attended a one-day seminar on legislative processes in Parliament.
The seminar aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of legislative functions, with particular emphasis on the oversight role, promotion of SMART governance, and the committee system.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, led a discussion on Parliament’s role in advancing SMART governance, stressing the institution’s commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and accountability.
On his part, the Hon. Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, outlined the essential functions of parliamentary committees, and their importance in ensuring the effective execution of legislative duties.
In delivering a lecture on the critical role Parliament plays in a democratic system, the Clerk to Parliament, Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, reminded participants that Parliament’s representational role affords citizens the opportunity to engage in constructive debate, which should not be taken for granted.
The leader of the delegation, Major-General Nii Ayitey Aryeetey, Commandant, expressed appreciation for the opportunity.
The team had the privilege of observing parliamentary proceedings firsthand and gaining insights into the legislative process.
