Local Government Expert Issaka Amon Kotei has shed light on the origins of National Sanitation Day, tracing its roots back to prehistoric times.
He explained that in the olden days, communal labor was employed to manage waste.
“We used National Sanitation Day in the prehistoric era in the olden days to manage waste”. He stated
According to Mr. Kotei, waste management is a complex technology in itself, requiring a strategic approach rather than relying solely on communal efforts.
Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, He highlighted the two main categories of waste, organic, which includes human waste, and inorganic, encompassing materials like paper and plastic.
“When we say waste, we are looking at the Organic and Inorganic waste, which the organic refers to the waste from Humans, and inorganic like paper and plastic”. He explained
By separating these waste types, we can better understand the sources of waste generation, which primarily comes from humans.
