The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP) has announced a significant policy shift in the government’s approach to rural telephony with immediate effect.
The National Communications Authority (NCA) and Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) have been instructed to conduct an audit of the 2016 rural telephony sites.
Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP) was speaking at the 15-year anniversary celebration of Helios Towers.
Sites deemed commercially viable he said will be decommissioned, allowing commercial services to operate in those areas. This move aims to reduce government intervention where the private sector can thrive.
“The government is committed to creating a favorable business environment, emphasizing that businesses and entrepreneurs should drive growth”, he intimated.
Hon. Samuel George declared “Ghana is open for business again”, the government signals a renewed focus on attracting investment and promoting economic growth through private sector participation.
