The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Suhum Constituency of the Eastern Region has vehemently denounced the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Margaret Darko, for her unsubstantiated claims implicating former President John Dramani Mahama in the demise of late President Professor John Atta Mills on July 24,2012,three days after his 68th birthday.
The MCE went on the say that, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has however been loyal servant for almost 8 years to President Akufo Addo therefore deserves 100% support to ascend the seat of government.
In a statement issued by Dove Maxwell, the Suhum Constituency Communication Officer for the NDC, the party expressed grave concern over a circulating video featuring the MCE, Margaret Darko.
The video portrays Darko levelling accusations against Mahama, suggesting his involvement in the untimely passing of Professor Mills.
“We unequivocally condemn these baseless allegations against our esteemed flagbearer and former President,” stated Maxwell. “Such claims not only lack any evidence but also demonstrate a reckless disregard for truth and decency.”
The NDC’s statement called upon the appropriate authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into Darko’s remarks, emphasizing the need for accountability and the preservation of democratic values.
Maxwell further urged the MCE to prioritize municipal development over divisive politicking, emphasizing the importance of addressing pressing issues such as reckless borrowing, corruption scandals, and the burdensome tax regime imposed by the current government.
Regarding internal strife within the Suhum NPP, Maxwell noted with concern the emergence of independent contenders and urged the MCE to focus on fostering unity within her party ranks.
“It is regrettable that instead of focusing on her primary duties as the president’s representative in the municipality, the MCE has chosen to engage in divisive rhetoric and personal attacks. We remind her that the development of Suhum Municipal should be her utmost priority, not reckless politicking.”
The statement added “We reiterate our commitment to the principles of truth, integrity, and unity. Let us set aside reckless politicking and work together towards the collective prosperity of our beloved homeland, Ghana.”
