The Eastern Regional Organizer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Hackman Kabore has welcomed the President’s decision to abort the amendment of the 1992 Constitution, both in respect of article 243(1) and Article 55(3) and he is demanding for details of accounts on money spent so far.
He claimed that the government has spent about ¢30m on the referendum to amend article 55(3) of the 1992 Constitution to allowed Political parties to participate and sponsor candidates for District Level election.
The President, Nana Akufo-Addo on Sunday night said “it is with deep regret that I have given instructions to the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, who has spearheaded this process, on behalf of government, with commendable vigour and dynamism, to abort the process, and see to the “withdrawal of the bills for the amendment of the Constitution, both in respect of article 243(1) and Article 55(3)”.
But in an interview with Kofi Atakora, joydaddymultimedia reporter, the Eastern regional organizer of the NDC, Mr. Kabore Hackman believed Ghanaians will also withdraw the Akufo-Addo led administration in 2020 general elections over it failure to allowed Parliament to go ahead to amend article 243(1) to enable Ghanaian voters to choose Assembly Chief executives.
Mr. Kabore accused the government of using state money to Campaign for the “YES” vote in the referendum without consulting main stakeholders.
The organizer, however, charged the Ministry of Local government and rural development as well as MMDA’s to render accounts to Ghanaians on the money they spent for the campaign.
