The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been described as opposes of good national policies in the history of Ghana’s democratic governance.
The party is been accused of opposing many policy interventions by the ruling New Patriotic Party NPP (NPP) since 2000 to date, despite the positive results after their implementations.
The Deputy majority leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who made these comments, have, therefore, urged Ghanaians to forgo any negative comments by the NDC and rally behind the Akufo-Addo led government.
Speaking at Government Town Hall meeting on the E-levy in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, Hon. Afenyo-Markin mentioned the introduction of communication tax, the NHIS, free SHS, Planting for Food and Jobs, restoration of teachers and nurses allowances as some of the policies implemented by the NPP which were earlier chastised by the opposition NDC.
But according to him, all the above-mentioned policies and many others have been successfully implemented by the NPP, serving all Ghanaians no matter one’s political affiliation.
Linking it to the e-levy issue, the Deputy majority leader insisted that the introduction of the electronic tax will go a long way to support the government budget in executing the many ongoing projects and policies.
He assured Ghanaians that monies from the levy would be accounted for thoroughly for all to see and know the projects the fund is being used for.
The minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu Ekkuful on her part revealed that online transactions have increased drastically since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic with many people doing businesses and transacting money electronically.
She stressed that the introduction of the e-levy would also enable the country to do away with excessive borrowing which has characterized the county’s economy since independence.
The introduction of the e-levy in the 2022 budget has generated several controversies and ugly incidents in Parliament and across the social media networks, with some opposing it while others are of the view would contribute to the nation’s development.
