The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is expected to experience significant internal strife over its future leadership, according to Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Ahiagbah stated on Starr FM that the NDC is on the verge of internal strife as talks about the party’s future leader following President John Dramani Mahama became more heated.
“Perhaps the NDC will have to sign about more than one pact because what is about to unfold in their party will be catastrophic,” he said.
“They are about to select who leads after President Mahama and if you are reading the signs, it’s not going to be friendly. It’s not going to be pretty at all.”
Even though President Mahama is still in office, he said that early succession disputes have already begun within the party.
“The minute they sworn President Mahama in, people started their campaign to succeed him,” Ahiagbah said. “You know about that. You see what is boiling up.”
According to him, the situation is already creating tension that could require internal mediation.
“There are situations where the elders in the party have to intervene to bring everybody together and say, allow me to focus on the job and stop going around trying to be president,” he stated.
Ahiagbah described the situation as unstable and warned that it could worsen if not properly managed.
“It’s a ticking time bomb,” he said.
