The 2020 presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Dramani Mahama has said he is surprised that his party is still strong despite two defeats in 2016 and 2020 respectively.
According to him, there is hope that his party will return to governance in 2024 looking at the enthusiasm among supporters, card-bearing members, and leaders.
Speaking on Koforidua-based Sunrise FM during his thank-you tour of the Eastern Region, the former president said the Party won the 2020 presidential and parliamentary election but they were intimidated and cheated by the security deplored for the election and the electoral commission.
The former president claimed that the party won about 143 to 145 parliamentary seats and increased presidential votes in the Ashanti region by 150,000 and 75,000 in the Eastern Region in the 2020 election respectively but they were created by the electoral commission.
He said the party had begun holding conferences at the Constituency and regional level to prepare for 2024 and in November, the party will hold a National delegates conference and make party constitutional reforms as they prepare for 2022 internal elections.
Mr. John Mahama thanked Ghanaians who voted for him and parliamentary candidates in the 2020 election and encouraged them to continue following the NDC and warm-up for change without challenge at Supreme Court in 2024.
