A private attorney named Mr Fiifi Buckman has run for the seat before but lost. Prior to running as an NDC candidate on the party’s platform, he ran as an independent. In the NPP’s parliamentary primary on June 20, 2020, he defeated then-incumbent Member of Parliament Mr. Joe Mensah. He then defeated two other opponents to keep the New Patriotic Party’s seat in Kwesimintsim with 24,759 votes, more than his nearest opponent, who received 13,385.
He is currently a member of the House Committee and the Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education. After the New Patriotic Party (NPP) also lost Sekondi, Kwesimintsim is now one of the constituencies in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis to fall to the NDC.
