The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to surpass Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s present efforts in digitizing Ghana if elected, according to Ranking Member of Parliament’s Finance Committee Isaac Adongo.
In a February 28, 2024, public lecture at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) hosted by the Coalition for Restoration (CFR), Mr. Adongo emphasized the importance of a digitalization strategy that minimizes human intervention in the delivery of public services, reduces corruption, and combats crime.
Mr. Adongo claimed that the government’s digitalization plan was merely focused on “stand-alone improvement tools” and that neither corruption nor efficiency had been greatly improved.
“You said John Mahama was using manual rudimentary systems and you have come to digitalise. If you have come to digitalised, shouldn’t you be better than John Mahama in corruption perception? Your best, 43 is John Mahama’s worst – 43,” he stated.
Mr. Adongo defined digitalization as the integration of digital technology into the economy and society. He emphasized that digitalization has the ability to improve security systems, boost economic growth, and encourage creativity.
He compared present procedures with the digitalization system that the NDC was proposing, imagining a system similar to European norms in which police might obtain extensive public records during routine stops.
The lecture’s objectives were to assess Ghana’s economic performance under the current government and lay out the NDC’s suggested remedies in the event that they win the general election in 2024.
Mr. Adongo pledged to carry out economic initiatives to strengthen resilience, generate jobs, and emphasize local participation across critical sectors. He praised previous NDC administrations for their revolutionary communication and infrastructure projects.
