Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has pledged that the next NDC government will reward the Krobo and Dangme people with ministerial appointments for their unwavering support and loyalty to the party since 1992.
Addressing party supporters at a campaign launch in the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency, Dr. Ofosu Ampofo highlighted the longstanding relationship between the NDC and the Krobo and Dangme communities.
He said the Dangme people across the country have been very loyal to the NDC since 1992.
” The party has always won all parliamentary seats in the Dangme areas, apart from Upper Manya Krobo which lost 2016, but we regained it in 2020,” he said.
He noted that this loyalty would not go unrecognized. “Just as Hon. Seth Terkper and others were given appointments in previous NDC governments, the reward of the Dangme people is coming from the next NDC government,” Dr. Ofosu Ampofo promised.
Shifting focus to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Ofosu Ampofo expressed confidence in the NDC’s chances in the upcoming December 7 polls, citing the actions of key NPP figures. “In Dr. Bawumia’s own constituency, his sister, special assistant, and spokesperson have all contested to become MPs. How do people who work closely with the Vice President suddenly switch to contest for parliamentary seats? It shows that even the NPP knows John Dramani Mahama will win the next elections,” he stated.
He urged the people of Upper Manya Krobo to reject the NPP in both the parliamentary and presidential elections. “Mahama will need a majority in parliament to reset the country and move Ghana forward, ensuring peace, development, and progress,” he said.
Dr. Ofosu Ampofo also reiterated the NDC’s concerns over the credibility of the voter register, calling for an independent forensic audit.
He criticized the Electoral Commission for admitting that there were anomalies in the register and called on the party’s supporters to join the planned nationwide protest on September 17, 2024. “The register is the heartbeat of the election. We will demonstrate and demand from the EC any constituency where there were names of plants and animals in the register,” he stated.
The Eastern Region Chairman of the NDC, Mark Oliver Kevor, officially launched the campaign, introducing Bismark Tetteh Nyarko as the NDC parliamentary candidate for Upper Manya Krobo. Kevor encouraged constituents to vote for both Nyarko and Mahama to ensure unified development in the constituency.
During the event, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko donated a new canoe to the Akateng fishing community, reinforcing his commitment to the people of Upper Manya Krobo ahead of the 2024 elections.
