The race for the District Chief Executive (DCE) position in the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency has intensified, with strong backing for Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer from key youth groups and party executives.
Out of seven candidates who applied for the position, Kwasi Lawer, who serves as the Constituency Communication Officer of the party, emerged as the top choice after an internal scrutiny and voting process by current MP ,former MPs, and constituency executives securing 8 points, ahead of his closest contenders who received 6 and 5 points, respectively.
Three influential youth groups—Young Allied, The Green Army, and Door to Door—have thrown their weight behind Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer, urging the party’s leadership to appoint him as the next DCE.
According to the groups, Lawer is the only candidate they will accept, citing his experience, dedication, and ability to work closely with the MP to drive development in the constituency.
“We have seen cases where DCEs were brought in from outside the constituency, only to struggle with understanding the needs of the people. This time, we insist that the choice of the constituents be respected,” a joint statement from the groups emphasized.
Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer has served three terms as an Assembly Member for the Anyaboni Electoral Area, demonstrating a consistent commitment to development in the constituency.
His supporters argue that his grassroots experience and loyalty make him the ideal candidate for the DCE role.
The youth groups also warned against any attempt to appoint an external candidate, stating that such a move could set back development efforts and cause discontent within the party’s local structures.
The endorsing groups have called on the regional and national leadership of the party to consider the will of the people and officially endorse Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer for the DCE position.
“We believe that appointing him will ensure effective governance and accelerate development in Upper Manya Krobo,” they stated.
As the competition for the DCE seat continues, Lawer’s growing grassroots support makes him a strong contender, with youth groups and local party executives determined to see him appointed.
