Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has announced that a future National Democratic Congress (NDC) government led by John Dramani Mahama would introduce the “Youth-In-Mining” initiative to create a sustainable and youth-inclusive approach in the small-scale mining sector.
Speaking to voters in Boadua in the Akwatia constituency during his ongoing Eastern Region campaign tour, Dr. Omane Boamah, now serving as the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, explained that the initiative would focus on environmental protection, regulatory efficiency, and job creation.
According to Dr. Omane Boamah, the initiative would decentralize the licensing process, making it easier for small-scale miners to operate legally.
He said advanced technology would be used to monitor and protect forests, water bodies, and farmland from illegal mining.
Additionally, “Equipment Pools” would be set up across mining districts, giving young miners affordable access to essential tools.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Akwatia Nana Boakye, also known as Okoyo, raised concerns over delays in revitalizing the Great Consolidated Diamond (GCD), which has faced legal challenges.
The MP pointed out the potential of GCD to generate over 1,500 jobs and committed that a future NDC government would work to resolve these issues and restore the company’s operations to support the local economy.
Former NDC National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo also addressed the crowd, urging all party members and branch executives to focus on door-to-door campaigns to mobilize voter support for Mahama and NDC parliamentary candidates.
He said Free ShS will be strengthened so that after SHS students get free entry into tertiary institutions.
