Ada Electoral Area’s Plea: Help Us Avoid Annual Flooding Woes
By: Hon. Freeman Kojo Gadri, Assembly Member, Ada Electoral Area
For years, the community members of Ada Electoral Area, specifically those living in Sentimental Unit, have suffered during the rainy season. As the rains approach, we are forced to confront the looming threat of property destruction and displacement. It is unacceptable that we must wait for disaster to strike before receiving aid from the National Disaster Management authorities.
Therefore, I am calling on the hardworking Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Appaw-Gyasi, to come to our aid by addressing the long-standing issue of inadequate drainage gutters in our community. We urgently need functional drainage systems to prevent the annual flooding that wreaks havoc on our homes and businesses.
To address this issue, I suggest the following solutions:
- Conduct a thorough assessment of the existing drainage infrastructure to identify areas that need improvement or replacement.
- Install new drainage gutters and pipes that can efficiently manage rainwater runoff.
- Clear existing drainage channels of debris and sediment to ensure proper water flow.
- Construct retaining walls or levees to protect homes and businesses from floodwaters.
- Implement a regular maintenance schedule to ensure the drainage systems remain functional and effective.
It is our right to live in a safe and healthy environment, and it is the responsibility of our leaders to ensure that basic infrastructure is in place to protect us from natural disasters. I urge the Municipal Chief Executive to take immediate action to address our plea and work towards finding a lasting solution to our flooding woes.
