The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South, Ransford Owusu Boakye, has moved to ease transportation challenges in the Zongo community of Koforidua by reshaping its long-deplorable roads.
For years, the Zongo roads had deteriorated so badly that they were virtually unmotorable, forcing residents to rely mainly on motorized tricycles, popularly known as Pragia , to access communities such as Pipeline and Sentimental.
The reshaping, done with grading and compacted gravel, has already made the roads more accessible and improved traffic flow.
Speaking after the intervention, the MCE explained that the move is only a temporary measure while awaiting the central government’s approval of a 10-kilometre asphalt contract for the Zongo roads.
The work was carried out with support from the District Road Improvement Program (DRIP). The Deputy Eastern Regional DRIP Coordinator, Salasie Amuzu, assured that the equipment will continue to be used to provide safe and convenient transportation for the public.
Some residents of Koforidua Zongo welcomed the development, recounting the struggles they endured in accessing vehicles—especially during rainy seasons. They commended the Assembly for prioritizing their needs and expressed hope that the promised asphalt project will follow soon.
