The Church of Pentecost has announced to meet the Electoral Commission and the New Patriotic Party to listen to their side of reasons for supporting new voters register for December 2020 general elections.
This comes after the Church leaders led by the former chairman, Professor Opoku Onyinah meet the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress at his office.
The visit was an official invitation by Mr. John Mahama who started engaging all stakeholders in the country to solicit their views to compile the party’s manifesto for 2020.
Speaking with the media after the engagement, Professor Opoku Onyinah said the church cannot support the compilation of new register or against it until the listen to those in supports and against as well as the Electoral Commission.
The Electoral Commission has announced its intention to compile a new voter register in the first quarter of next year for election 2020 and beyond.
The Commission said the new voter register would include facial recognition to eliminate manual verification at the polling stations thereby ensuring credibility and integrity of the elections.
Mr. Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman-in-Charge of Operations speaking at a press briefing said in the just ended District Level Elections held in 2019, out of a total number of over Five Million verified, about Thirty-Four Thousand, were manually verified.
