National communication team member for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Halona Amaliba Kingsley has said that new voters register is unnecessary and Ghanaians should not focus on EC and NPP because they are going to waste the country’s money.
According to him, many Ghanaians are saying that there is no need for the EC to do new voters register but rather they should use the money allocated for the New Voter to do other projects.
Lawyer Haloma relates that if that register was credible enough to enable an opposition party, NPP, to win the election, why the needs to discard this register completely and compile a new one.
The Electoral Commission will begin compiling new voters register on Sunday, April 18, 2020, and close at May 30 including the exhibition of the register which will also start on September ahead of December 7th election.
He added that the Inter-Party Resistance Against a New Voters Register (IPRAN), which includes the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says they will never stop doing the demonstration until the EC has changed her ways.
“The idea to do new register doesn’t make both economic and human sense, especially when the country needs more money to build additional classrooms for secondary schools across the country to stop the double-track currently inconveniencing both students and parents,” he said.
He explains that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is playing a psychological game and manipulation the emotion of Ghanaians.
Speaking to Abena Pokua Awhenee on Dadi FM he entreats Ghanaians to maintain the old one in order to make the 2020 general election smoothly.
In furtherance, the EC should stop given an excuse because of facial recognition.
He said the date which EC had fixed for doing new voters register will not work because they Petites Christians council, National House of Chiefs and many others to partake in these issues.
