The Public Relations Officer (P.R.O.) of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, has indicated that newly recruited teachers are expected to begin receiving their salaries hopefully after three months of service.
According to Mr. Fenyi, the government is working rapidly to process the necessary documentation for all newly recruited teachers to facilitate the timely payment of their salaries.
He explained that, unlike in previous years when newly recruited teachers could sometimes work for up to a year without receiving their salaries, efforts are being made to reduce the financial burden on newly employed teachers.
“Gone were the days when newly recruited teachers taught for a whole year without receiving their salaries. Teaching for a year without pay can make life extremely difficult for newly recruited teachers. Government is therefore working hard and fast to ease that burden this time. We hope it will not take more than three months for them to be paid.”
Mr. Fenyi made the remarks in an interview with Obaapa Florence Nyamekye Caesar on Bryt 99.1 FM’s educational programme, Bryt Education Time.
Recruitment of 7,000 Graduate Teachers
The Ghana Education Service earlier commenced a recruitment exercise for 7,000 graduate teachers, with applications opening in April 2026. The recruitment process subsequently moved into reviews and regional onboarding in July and August 2026, with postings expected to be finalized around late August.
The application portal for the April 2026 recruitment was closed shortly after opening following a high volume of applications.
Any decision to reopen the portal or introduce additional recruitment phases will depend on further financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance.
