The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Chief Executive, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, on Monday, December 2, 2024, visited the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Dialysis Center to assess the progress of the government’s rolled-out free dialysis program.
His aim was to monitor and track the hospital management’s alignment with the government’s guidelines on the dialysis program, which commenced fully on December 1, 2024.
Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye emphasized the program’s importance and assured renal patients of its sustainability.
Some patients on admission to the Centre commended the government for ensuring their financial risk protection against the cost of dialysis treatment.
The President of the Renal Patients Association of Ghana, Mr. Kojo Baffour Ahenkorah, expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I was not charged a dime when I came for my dialysis treatment this morning. The process was very easy and not complex. We want to thank the government for this initiative.”
The Acting Chief Executive of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere, showcased the facility’s newly acquired dialysis machines and assured the NHIA Chief Executive and patients of quality service delivery.
The free dialysis program is a significant step forward in seeking to address the growing prevalence of kidney-related ailments and to ensure that no renal patient is left behind in receiving life-saving care.
