The Bono Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Mr. Clement Obeng, has affirmed that the leadership of the National Health Insurance Authority is diligently striving to eliminate practices by healthcare facilities that impose co-payments or employ other methods to illicitly extract funds from patients holding NHIS cards.
He disclosed that the authority, under the guidance of CEO Dr. Vincent Bampoe, has established a committee to reassess the pharmaceutical and service tariffs within the scheme, culminating in the introduction of a revised list of medications to adjust the compensation provided to healthcare facilities, thereby preventing additional charges.
Furthermore, service tariffs are undergoing review to ensure that NHIS service payments correspond appropriately with the services rendered at healthcare facilities, thus averting extra charges, commonly referred to as co-payment.
Mr. Clement Obeng urged NHIS clients to promptly report any extortion of funds by healthcare facilities to the Co-payment Committees at the District or Municipal office of the National Health Insurance Scheme. This will enable appropriate measures to be taken against these facilities, thereby mitigating the incidence of co-payment charges.
