The International Maritime Hospital GPHA (IMaH) will now provide healthcare services to members of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
At a brief ceremony at the hospital in Tema, the facility received official certification as a primary care provider.
The credentialling of the hospital, according to the CEO of International Maritime Hospital Dr. Afriyie Acheampong, couldn’t have arrived at a better time given that the facility’s goal is to provide all Ghanaians with access to high-quality healthcare.
The board chair of the hospital, Prof. Gladys Amponsah expressed gratitude to NHIA management for certifying the facility as a primary healthcare status and requested for an upgrade to the next level as soon as possible. She pledged the board’s commitment to working cooperatively with the NHIS to guarantee a seamless working relationship.
Dr. Alexander Adusei JR., who represented the Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbor Authority (GPHA), stated that the hospital was built not only to serve its employees and their families but also to give quality care to all Ghanaians.
Dr. Alexander Adusei further stated that the GPHA, which owns the health facility, is eager to welcome all NHIS members for an international healthcare experience.
Dr Okoe Boye, CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), emphasized the significance of the relationship between the NHIS and the International Maritime Hospital, reiterating that the NHIS member will be the ultimate beneficiary.
He also urged the hospital to educate patients to utilize the MyNHIS App for new registrations and the *929# short code for renewal.
Dr. Okoe Boye said the Scheme is poised to continuously make it viable for Ghanaians to have access to healthcare, emphasizing that the NHIS will remain steadfast in ensuring prompt payment of claims to credentialed health providers.
He further called on the health providers to desist from surcharging members who seek health care at their hospitals as it causes disaffection for the Scheme.
The International Maritime Hospital (IMaH), a subsidiary of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, is a 130-bed ultramodern tertiary hospital, with state-of-the-art medical facilities, located in Community Three, Tema, Ghana.
