The National Identification Authority (NIA) is set to commence registration for the Ghana Card in the Eastern Region from today, Wednesday, 4th March 2020 to Friday, 27th March 2020.
The registration centers will be open from 7:00am to 5:00 pm each day (excluding Sundays and Public Holidays) in 833 Centers in all the 33 Districts in the Region.
National Identification Authority has targeted to Register over 1.6million people in the Eastern Region.
The Mass registration exercise started on the 29th of April 2019 with Greater Accra being the first region.
The NIA has so far conducted the mass registration exercise in the following regions: Volta, Oti, Northern, Savannah, North East, Upper East, Upper West, Bono, Ahafo, Bono East, Ashanti, Western, Central and Western North Regions, and Eastern Region are last.
It must be indicated that the NIA from the pilot phase up till the 22nd February 2020, has registered a total of 9,813,242 eligible Ghanaians, printed 8,408,721 cards and issued cards to 6,186,679 qualified Ghanaians.
The NIA piloted the registration exercise via institutional and community (Adentan, La Nkwantanang, and Ga East municipalities) registration from 4th June 2018 to 28th April 2019, resulting in significant improvements to the technical system.
