The National Identification Authority (NIA) is lamenting over the inability to get hand sanitizers for its field officials to protect them against coronavirus disease.
According to the Authority, all efforts made have been unsuccessful due to shortage of the product on the Ghanaian market. However, efforts are underway to procure hand gloves for the staff to wear during the registration exercise ongoing in the Eastern region.
NIA has assured to procured hand gloves to its field officers but in the meantime strongly advise them to regularly wash their hands as efforts to get sanitizers have not been possible due to shortage.
“Wash your hands frequently with soap under running water as well as frequent use of hand sanitizers. Regrettably, all efforts by the Authority since last Thursday to procure hand sanitizers for field Officials have been unsuccessful owing to an acute shortage of sanitizers on the Ghanaian market. The procurement Department is, however, intensifying efforts to procure sanitizers for distribution to field officers”
NIA suspended its mass registration exercise in the Eastern Region Monday, March 16, 2020, but after a stakeholders meeting issued a new directive that the exercise will continue but will only allow twenty-five persons including field officers at a center in a given time in line with the directive by President of Ghana, H.E Nana Akufo-Addo.
