The National Identification Authority (NIA) did not show up on Wednesday to distribute Ghana Cards to applicants in Afram Plains North and South Districts.
Applicants who went to various registration centers as early as 6:00 am returned to their homes as officials of the NIA largely failed report for the commencement of the exercise.
Kasapa News checks in Tease and Donkorkrom both District capitals respectively indicate though a handful of NIA staff reported at some centers, no set up of equipment was done for distribution of the Cards.
They waited for the arrival of complementary of some complementary equipment, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which were not forthcoming.
As at the time of filing on Thursday during a visit to some centers in the District, the exercise was yet to commence.
Nonetheless, the exercise went on successfully in few areas monitored in New Juaben North and South Municipalities.

According to the NIA, the decision to postpone the mass distribution exercise from Monday, June 8 to Wednesday, June 10 was to enable it to distribute enough PPE to its workers at all registration centers.
The NIA is expected to issue 3,875,441 printed cards to Ghana Card applicants at 5,635 registration centers before a mop-up exercise concurrently.
It expects 11,062,850 Ghanaians to have the Ghana Card in time for the Electoral Commission’s (EC) compilation of a new voter register as the EC plans to make the Ghana Card and the passports the only valid identification for registering to vote
According to the NIA, the cards are being made available in time to enable Ghanaians to use them in the upcoming voter’s registration exercise scheduled on June 30, 2020.
