The Joint Technical Committee, set up by the National Identification Authority (NIA) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has held a meeting to review the collaborative policy on registering children aged 6 to 14 for the Ghana Card, which stalled in November 2024.
The meeting, co-chaired by Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah, Ag. Director, Corporate Affairs, and Mr. Joseph Annor, Deputy Director, Business Systems and Projects, brought together key officials from both institutions and their technical partner IMS 2.
It focused on evaluating progress made, identifying challenges, and exploring ways to enhance the registration process in 2025.
The review was part of efforts to strengthen the partnership and improve efficiency in issuing the Ghana Card to children in the targeted age group.
All the parties reaffirmed their commitment to working together to enhance service delivery and remove bottlenecks in the registration process.
Mr. Alfred Gazari led the NIA team, while Ms. De-Sylvia Asare, Ag. Chief Operating Officer led the IMS 2 team.
It is recalled that the Parliament of Ghana, in 2024, approved the collaboration between the NIA and NHIA, where the NHIA was expected to procure the needed non-personalized smartcards and provide human resources to support the NIA to register children from the age of 6 years to 14 years onto the National Identification System (NIS).
