Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has joined Marcel Desailly as the only players with Ghanaian roots to have lifted the Euro title.
Desailly, who opted to represent France at the expense of Ghana won the Euro Championship with the ‘Le Blue’ back in the year 2000.
Until Sunday, Desailly was the only player with Ghanaian descent to have won the trophy.
Williams after clinching the 2024 edition with Spain has equaled Marcel Desailly’s success at the Euros.
The Athletic Bilbao winger was on target when Spain cruised to a 2-1 win over England to clinch their fourth European title.
Williams opened the scoring in the 47th minute mark before Cole Palmer leveled the pegging in the 73rd minute.
Spain left it late to secure victory over England after substitute Mikel Oyazarbal fired home the match winner in the 86th minute.
