Niger’s junta leaders have accused France of wanting to “intervene militarily” to reinstate the West African nation’s deposed president, Mohamed Bazoum.
It comes after the regional bloc ECOWAS gave the coup leaders one week to reinstate Bazoum.
The bloc said it might be forced to use the military to restore constitutional order if the leaders don’t reinstate President Mohamed Bazoum.
Last week, General Abdourahmane Tchiane declared himself Niger’s new leader after the dramatic coup.
The African Union also gave soldiers 15 days to return to their barracks and restore constitutional rule.
