Nigerian President Bola Tinubu began a two-day visit to France, marking the first official state visit by a Nigerian leader in over 20 years.
The visit focuses on deepening economic cooperation and strengthening ties, with Nigeria seeking investment in sectors like agriculture, energy, security, and innovation.
Tinubu and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed shared values in trade, finance, and sustainable development.
France is working to enhance relations with English-speaking African nations following waning influence in its former colonies, exacerbated by military coups in Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso.
The visit aligns with Macron’s efforts to establish a “renewal” in France-Africa relations and foster partnerships of equals, free from colonial legacies, amid rising competition from countries like China and India.
