The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly (NJSA) has held its second ordinary meeting of the second session of the third Assembly at the Municipal Conference Hall. The two-day meeting, chaired by the Presiding Member, Hon. Nana Yaw Debrah and addressed by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye, took place from Thursday, October 30, to Friday, October 31, 2025.
During the session, the Executive Committee presented various sub-committee reports and adopted several recommendations aimed at enhancing sanitation, infrastructure, and revenue generation across the municipality.
Environmental and Sanitation Sub-Committee
The committee proposed the introduction of a dumping levy, to be collected by attendants at dumping sites, to ensure the regular lifting of skip containers. It also called for a review of the Assembly’s sanitation bylaws to strengthen enforcement and address persistent environmental challenges.
Roads and Transport Sub-Committee
To improve liquid waste management and increase revenue, the committee recommended the purchase of a new cesspit emptier. It further urged the repair of broken-down vehicles and the replacement of the Toyota Hiace (JICA Bus) engine to support operational efficiency.
Additionally, it suggested relocating the Pragya station near All Nations University to the Ho Station area to stimulate local economic activity.
Finance and Administration Sub-Committee
The committee recommended the reintroduction of night and weekend revenue collection to expand the Assembly’s revenue base. It also proposed installing CCTV cameras at strategic points within the Assembly premises to enhance security.
Other recommendations included organizing orientation programs for new Assembly Members to deepen their understanding of administrative and governance systems, and adhering to the policy of allocating 20% of Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to community-level capital projects, with transparent performance reporting.
Social Services Sub-Committee
Expressing concern over the dilapidated state of the Sarkodie Basic School building, the committee called for immediate re-roofing to ensure safety and provide a better learning environment.
Development Planning Sub-Committee
The committee proposed adopting modern, storey-building designs for future basic school projects to optimize land use. It also recommended constructing a new toilet facility and renovating the canteen at Bornya King of Glory School.
In addition, the committee raised concerns about sewage discharge from the newly constructed Zongo Market toilet into open drains and urged immediate corrective measures.
Further recommendations included partitioning and renovating open market sheds at Zongo Market and adding an additional floor to the unfinished lockable stores before roofing.
Justice and Security Sub-Committee
The committee noted a rise in unauthorized roadblocks during weekends and recommended empowering the Urban Roads Department to monitor and curb such activities.
It also urged the Assembly to expedite the procurement of a sound gauge to effectively regulate noise levels and to support the timely completion of the ongoing Municipal Fire Office building project.
Works Sub-Committee
The committee recommended that the Assembly urgently roof the existing 40 lockable stores to prevent further deterioration and enhance market functionality.
Conclusion
The meeting concluded with a call for all departments and committees to work collaboratively to implement the outlined recommendations, aimed at advancing the socio-economic development of the New Juaben South Municipality.
