One passenger has been confirmed dead in a head-on collision accident that occurred near Nkawkaw in the Eastern region.
Many of the 44 injured passengers are still on admission while some are discharged after treatment.
The accident as reported earlier by this news portal occurred Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at about 9:00 pm on the Accra-Kumasi highway (N6) at Oframase Abossy Okai stretch near Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West District of the Eastern Region.
The responding Crew led by Assistant Station Officer (Astn O) Paul Adjapong arrived at the accident scene at 2130 hours after maneuvering heavy traffic occasioned by the said accident.
The accident occurred when DAF Trailer Truck with registration number GE-7704-12 collided head-on with a Kia Grand Bird Parkway Bus with registration number AS- 4684-20 while both attempted to speed past a stationary Daewoo Rhino Truck with registration number AS-2932-20 carrying charcoal.
Both drivers of the collided vehicles were trapped while 44 other passengers aboard the bus were critically injured.
The drivers of the Kia Grand Bird Parkway Bus and that of the DAF Trailer Truck who were trapped in their respective vehicles with injuries were successfully extricated and rescued by the Fire Rescuers.
The National Ambulance Service was at the accident scene to convey the injured passengers to nearby hospitals for further medical treatment while the dead passenger was handed over to the Police at the scene for preservation and further investigation.
Investigation continues to unravel the actual cause of the accident.
