At least twenty (20) passengers onboard an STC Bus enroute from Accra to Brekum are injured in a near-fatal accident at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
The injured passengers were rushed to the emergency theater of Holy Family Hospital at Nkawkaw for treatment.
Some of the passengers are reported to be fleeing from Accra to their hometowns following speculations of lockdown over coronavirus pandemic.
The accident occurred March 27,20,about 12:00pm.According to the 44-year-old driver, Michael Oduro, who was in charge of the STC Scania Marcopollo bus with registration Number GE 8126 – 16, he was from Accra heading towards Brekum in the Brong Ahafo Region with 50 passengers on board.
He said On reaching a section of the road at Kwahu – Saafi on the dual carriageway while descending a hill, he alleged his nearside front tyre got burst and in the process, he lost control over the steering wheel and veered off the road and ran into a culvert in the nearside ditch causing damage to the vehicle and injuries of passengers.
A joint team of Police, ambulance service and fire service rushed to the scene to rescue the passengers to the Hospital.
The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh told mybrytfmonline.com that the driver who was among the injured would assist in the investigations after he is treated and discharged from the hospital.
