The Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw, Joseph Frimpong has said, processes are being finalized for the establishment of a compost Plant in Nkawkaw by a foreign investor to covert human excreta to biogas and organic fertilizer.
He said the investors from the Netherlands are expected in the Nkawkaw this month to begin work for the establishment of the compost plant on a 20-acre land already secured for the project.
The Lawmaker says , the compost plant project will be completed by close of the year.
“In Nkawkaw municipality, waste management is an issue as it is in most of our municipalities and districts. We generate a lot and where we dispose of them is even a problem. So we intend to set up a compost industry to turn the waste into biogas and electricity and organic fertilizer. We will treat the urine into fertilizer and all that and we can reuse them for agricultural purposes. We are working with the NGOs for the industry to be established in the course of this year We are expecting them in Nkawkaw this month or next two months” The lawmaker told Mybrytfmonline.com in an interview at Ataaso a community in the Nkawkaw constituency.
The Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw believe the establishment of the plant will not only help the municipality manage its liquid waste properly but also create jobs for the youth.
Kwahu West Municipality is located on a 414Km square land size with estimated population of about 144,409.
