The Health Minister, Honourable Kweku Agyeman-Manu has assured the people of Ghana that the Government, Ministry of Health/Ghana Health Service working in collaboration with partners are doing everything possible to prevent and protect against the importation of the Coronavirus into the country and prevent spread.
He advised citizens to remain calm government through the Health Minister and the Ghana Health Service are doing all it takes to ensure that the virus is not imported into the country.
Speaking to the Media in Accra, Hon. Agyemang -Manu said Ghana has so far recorded nine suspected cases of coronavirus since the outbreak started in China but all these cases have tested negative.
Results from the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), where the blood samples of the two suspected patients were taken for examination, did not show any trace of the deadly Coronavirus infection.
As of 6th February 2020, there have been 28,280 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 565 deaths globally due to the disease.
Though there is no confirmed case of the coronavirus in Ghana, the Government has allocated GH¢2.5 million as a start-up towards the initial implementation of the national preparedness plan.
The move is in response to recommendations by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for countries to strengthen their health systems following the outbreak of the deadly disease in China, which started in Wuhan City.
In a related development, the government of Equatorial Guinea has announced a solidarity contribution of $2 million to China over the rampaging coronavirus outbreak.
The decision was reached after a cabinet meeting this week. It was chaired by President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
The cabinet also expressed solidarity and support for the Chinese government.
Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons said about the gesture: “China has always been a very strong and loyal supporter of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea and this contribution is a demonstration that Equatorial Guinea stands in solidarity with China and its people as it fights a global outbreak that has already cost too many lives.”
