Ghana legend Dan Owusu believes Ghanaian clubs are presently far from being mentioned among the elite clubs on the continent.
While the quality of the domestic top-flight has been criticized, the performance of Ghanaian clubs in the continental competition has left much to be desired in recent times.
The last time a Ghanaian club conquered Africa was back in 2004 when Hearts of Oak defeated Kotoko to lift the CAF Confederations Cup.
In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the three-time Ghana Premier League goal expressed his displeasure about the poor performance of Ghanaian clubs in Africa but said it will be difficult to annex the title anytime soon.
“The standard of our league has fallen, so why can a club from Ghana win the Champions League or Confederations Cup?
“Our clubs have been suffering heavy defeats in Africa. Kotoko and Hearts of Oak were top in Africa but the narrative has changed. To me, it will be difficult for a Ghanaian club to win title this time around” he said.
