The Majority leader of Ghana’s President, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has emphasized that there is no law barring a Deputy Speaker of the House from voting in parliamentary proceedings.
The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in an interview after adjournment of the passage of the E-levy in the 2022 budget statement.
Even though, the Majority leader also stressed that the E-levy forms an integral part of the 2022 budget statement, he was however optimistic it would stop the government from executing projects to better the lives of all Ghanaians.
Ghana’s Parliament since the reading of the 2022 budget statement, has been in the public domain following several ugly engagements that have ensued between members of the majority and minority.
The minority has requested for a reduction of the levy from the proposed 1.75% to 1% after sections of Ghanaians and cooperate organizations raised concerns against its passage as it would increase the burden of Ghanaians.
The majority on the other side is optimistic the passage of the levy would go a long way to augment government finances in its development agenda for the country.
Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu at the presser was peeved at the actions of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin in this whole e-levy passage brouhaha as he describes his actions as unfortunate.
Meanwhile, Parliament has a break for the Christmas and New year holidays and is expected to be back on the 18th January 2022.
