Local Government Expert, Issaka Amon Kotei, has shared his perspective on the roles of the government and the opposition in politics.
He emphasized that, he does not want to hinder the opposition from carrying out their duties, as their role fundamentally involves opposing the government.
“When it comes to politics, I don’t want to stop the government from performing its functions because they have a government to oppose”. He stated.
Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, he stated that, the government’s primary responsibility is to govern the nation, while the opposition’s role is to provide opposition. He believes that the methods the opposition uses to fulfill this role are not a matter of concern for others.
Mr. Kotei pointed out that it is up to the people of Ghana to assess whether the opposition is responsible or simply making noise. He used the example of cocoa pricing to illustrate his point.
He recalled a time when cocoa prices were high, but the opposition, the NDC, argued that the prices paid to farmers did not align with the market rates, implying that the farmers were being cheated, especially considering the high cost of living at the time.
