A District Court in Kade in Eastern Region has issued an ex-parte injunction directing three media outlets in Asuom-
Esewani Information Centre, Esewani Radio Station and Sir Plans Information Centre to cease operations until the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assesses their noise levels and grants them clearance to continue broadcasting.
The injunction was granted on March 4, 2025, following a legal action initiated by Nana Boadi Amponim Obodade III (Krontihene of Asuom), Nana Deibour II (Kyidomhene of Asuom), and Abusuapanin Abosi Aniagyei against Esewani Information Centre, Esewani Radio Station and Sir Plans Information Centre.
The plaintiffs claim that the activities of these media houses constitute public nuisance, causing discomfort to residents.
They are seeking a court order compelling the stations to comply with regulations governing information centers in the area.
In granting the injunction, the court cited the urgency of the matter and the need to balance the convenience of both parties.
The 10-day injunction will remain in force unless extended upon further application.
Additionally, the plaintiffs have filed for a writ of civil summons, requesting the court to enforce compliance with media regulations in Asuom.
They are also seeking any further reliefs the court may deem necessary, as well as legal costs.
The ruling means that the affected media houses must suspend broadcasting until the EPA conducts an assessment of their noise levels.
The outcome of this assessment will determine their future operations.
