Former Ghana international, Laryea Kingston says his inability to win a major silverware with the senior national team haunts him.
It has been 39 years since the country lifted Africa’s prestigious tournament (AFCON).
The Black Stars have come close to ending the trophy drought in the last decade, 2010 Angola losing to Egypt in the finals and in 2015 Equatorial Guinea- Gabon as the Stars lost to Ivory Coast on a penalty shootout.
However, Laryea, a member of the Black Stars team that qualified the country to the first-ever World Cup in 2006 in an interview with Kwaku Sarpong Sarkodie of Bryt FM indicated that he is still worried about not being able to win a trophy for Ghana looking at the squad they had at the time but believes the next generation will be capable of winning it.
“Ghanaians wished we could have won something for the country but the most important thing is that Ghanaians also saw our contribution but at least we should have done it”
“We had some opportunities to win a trophy for the country even though we tried but our efforts proved futile. As they say, everything happens for a reason. All we need to do is to work hard. The current Black Stars should put in much effort to achieve what we couldn’t achieve. I believe they will if we support them” he said.
