For the first time since 1992, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has won the Parliamentary seat in Upper West Akyem Constituency in the Eastern Region, breaking the Political History in the area.
A 36-year-old GeoChemist, Frederick Obeng Adom who defeated DCE and two-term Parliamentary candidate, Eugene Sackey, and two others united the defeated candidates and won the seat with 21,868 votes to defeat incumbent, Derek Ohene Asifu Bekoe who was seeking for the second term and he also had 20,0196 votes.
Honorable Asifu Bekoe until his election to Parliament was the first DCE for the Upper West Akyem District created in 2012 during the late Atta Mills administration.
