Head of Information, Permanent Mission of Ghana to the United Nations, Kofi Ameyaw, has attributed current bad behaviour of the youth to attitudes of the aged as well as politicians.
He indicated that, the Ghanaian youth are now becoming insulting and disrespectful due to actions of some politicians on both social media and traditional outlets as well.
Reacting to the suspension of eight students of Chiana SHS over their disrespect against President Akufo-Addo, Mr. Kofi Ameyaw described the actions of the students as unfortunate and disrespectful towards the first gentleman of the land.
Eight Chiana SHS female students were sacked by the Ghana Education Service for insulting the President and later sharing the video on social media last year.
However, the member of the New Patriotic Party Communication team was of the view that despite condemning the act of the students, he thinks there could be other form of punishment for the girls instead of outright sack.
“Most students have been sacked from our schools with even less misbehaviours as compared to that of the girls, so I don’t want us to let it seem this one is harsh. You can go to some SHS and check, some students have been sacked because of truancy and other less issues” Kofi Ameyaw told Berla Mundi on TV3.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has intervened in the matter as a statement issued by the Education ministry has confirmed.
The Education minister has directed the Ghana Education Service to consider alternative disciplinary action instead of the dismissal.
Mr. Kofi Ameyaw responding to the President’s directive stated “I am not suprised because our President is a human rights lawyer who considers the welfare of others as a top priority”.
“I think it should be a great lesson to all students in our schools to respect leadership and desist from all these bad behaviours.
Below is the President’s directive:
