Ahead of the delegate’s conference on 30th April 2022 in the Lower West Akyem Constituency of the Eastern Region, 30 people have picked nomination forms and filed to contest ten key positions at the Constituency level.
At the close of nomination and filing on 20th April 2022, four females and 26 males picked forms in the Constituency to be considered and contested for Chairman, Vice-chairman, Secretary, Youth, and Women Organization, Treasure, and others.
For the Nasara coordinator, Chairman, Secretary, and women Organizer positions, two each are contesting in the Constituency.
Also, four males and two females picked forms to be considered for the Youth organizer position, while five males are also seeking to be considered to contest for the vice chairmanship position.
Three each picked forms to contest for the first vice chairmanship position, Assistant Secretary, and Organizer position.
Long-Serving first vice Chairman, Joseph Ameyaw is contesting incumbent, Michael Asante for the chairmanship position, and Current Assistant Secretary, Abdul Rahman Mohammed is also contesting incumbent Secretary, Kingsley Omane Awuah who doubles as West Akyem Municipal Director for National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
An aspiring constituency chairman paid GH¢ 500 while all other positions would pay GH¢200.
The constituency executive elections are to be held at the Constituency Annual Delegates Conference to be supervised by a Constituency Election Committee from April 28 to 1st May 2022 in most Constituencies across the country.
Already, polling station executives have been elected.
Concerning Article 7(29)(e) and (30) of the NPP Constitution which provides, among other things, that, the Party’s Constituency Annual Delegates Conference shall meet to elect Constituency Officers, as well as Article 18 on Guidelines for the operations of the Party at all levels, the Party’s National Executive Committee, has, at its meeting on April 12, 2022, fashioned out the following Rules and Regulations for the conduct of the Party’s Constituency Annual Delegates Conference, to elect Constituency Executives.
Under Section17(2) of the Political Parties Law, Act 574, which provides that the election of National, Regional, and Constituency Officers of every political party shall be conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Commission, the constituency elections shall be supervised by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
The Party will only accept elections conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
Per Article 7 (27), delegates to the Constituency Annual Delegates Conference shall include:
a) Members of the Constituency Executive Committee.
b) All Electoral Area Coordinators.
c) All five (5) Polling Station Executives from all Polling Stations in the Constituency.
d) Five (5) members of the Constituency Council of Elders.
e) Five (5) members of the Constituency Council of Patrons, and
f) Any Founding Member from the Constituency.
The presence of at least one-third (1/3) of the delegates of the Constituency shall be necessary to constitute a quorum of the Conference.
