The 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party supporters to put an end to internal attacks and divisions, warning that such behavior undermines party unity and weakens its chances in future elections.
Speaking at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, Dr. Bawumia addressed lingering tensions within the party following its loss in the 2024 general elections.
“Too often, when we are yet to choose our leaders, indiscipline, unacceptable language, and unpardonable behavior become the order of the day,” he said. “In the end, when internal competitions are over, the attacks we have launched on ourselves become further ammunition for our opponents.”
He emphasized that internal conflicts played a significant role in the party’s defeat and warned against repeating those same mistakes.
“We saw the consequences during the 2024 campaign, and we must not allow it to happen again,” Dr. Bawumia cautioned. “This is why I’m calling on all ‘kokrodites’ to stop the internal attacks now.”
The National Delegates Conference brought together party leaders, executives, and grassroots members to deliberate on the NPP’s future and strategize ahead of the next electoral cycle.
