The Eastern Regional Women’s Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, Mrs. Fati Vondoli, has donated ten(10) brand new wheelchairs and five(5) boxes of sanitizer to the Henry Djaba Foundation towards the “1000 wheelchair per Region Project.”
Mrs. Fati Vondoli told the media that, persons with disability need support reason she decided to donate the wheelchairs to the Henry Djaba Foundation for onward distribution to physically challenged persons in need of them.
“I decided that on my birthday I will not be about partying but to also donate to the poor .10 brand new wheelchairs and five boxes of alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
I will like to use this opportunity to appeal to individuals to also donate to the foundation to support the vulnerable in society to give them hope”.Mrs. Fati Vondoli said.
Receiving the items, the Executive Director of Henry Djaba Foundation, Otiko Afisa Djaba, former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection stated that, Ghana has over 187,000 people who are physically challenged however only 30% have wheelchairs.
She explained that among the 30%, some of their wheelchairs are even malfunctioning and some damaged beyond repairs adding to the rest of the estimated 70% consisting of 131,000 people with disabilities who need wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
She said this has occasioned the “1000 wheelchairs per Region Project” by his foundation.
“The development of persons with disability has been left behind for far too long. As Ghana celebrates 64 years of Independence I’m pleading on behalf of all persons with disabilities that we should show them respect we should show them love we should support them and not see them as a burden. They should be in school, they should have healthcare, they should be able to move around, they should have access, and they should have employment”
