On Bryt 99.1 FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem, Dr. George Donfeh, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana and Lead Researcher at Africa Policy spoke with host Nana Yaw Obeng about tensions within the (NPP) ahead ofbthe party’s internal Flagbearership elections.
According to Dr. Donfeh, the disagreements began when the party leadership decided to elect its flag bearer before choosing national executives, a change that was officially pledged in January 2026. This decision generated divisions, as some argued the process should have been pushed further beyond January.
He noted that the process has since been marked by tension, insults, and internal attacks. The rivalry mainly emerged between supporters of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong, with other contenders like Kwabena Agyepong later joining the race.
Dr. Donfeh explained that Kwabena Agyepong often raised concerns about how the party organized by-elections, sometimes calling for cancellations. In contrast, Dr. Bawumia’s camp has faced accusations and counter-accusations, fueling further division.
He emphasized that over the years, these internal disputes have led to open attacks, responses, and accusations among the party’s leading figures.
