Nana Akomea has made a serious plea to New Patriotic Party delegates to vote for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer in order to face former President John Mahama in the 2024 election.
He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been accused by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Mr. Mahama, of being against electing a Northerner as their leader, but challenged the delegates to disprove this.
“Dr. Bawumia will make that propaganda useless,” he stated while soliciting votes during Peace FM’s morning show.
A duel between Bawumia and Mahama, in Nana Akomea’s opinion, will represent the true showdown.
“Bawumia against John Mahama, one on one, a real showdown…showdown number 2!”, he exclaimed.
The STC Chief Executive Officer added that a vote for Bawumia “will change the branding of the party. It will give the party a new face”.
“He will also make the party more inclusive,” he also stressed.
On November 4, the New Patriotic Party will pick a new president from among four candidates running for the position of flagbearer.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president, Kennedy Agyapong, a representative for Assin Central, Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, former minister of agriculture, and Thomas Addai Nimoh, a prominent NPP member, make up the four.
The race has been termed the “showdown” because it is anticipated to be a heated confrontation among the contenders, especially the Vice President and Kennedy Agyapong, who are the front-runners.
